Roman Wasylkevych is a recently retired Detroit area based continuous improvement and project management leader, who began programming computers in the days when the processors used punch-cards and magnetic tape. Over the years he has worked on complex computer application development and implementation projects, led various size merger integration and divestiture projects in 25 countries, managed cross-functional professional staff across North America, and led a number of Project Management Offices. His expertise and skills are best summarized as follows from his current LinkedIn profile: Leader with Integrity, Strategic Thinking Expert, Global Catalyst for Change, and Innovator and Chaos Resolver.
His bilingual background includes the full range of Ukrainian schools, Plast, TUSM (college Ukrainian student youth organization during the first Cold War), Ukrainian Engineers Society, and writing, translating and editing articles and books related to Ukrainian refugee and immigrant experiences. He chairs the local Community Greenways Advisory Committee and is a local Parks and Recreation Board member where he promotes healthy recreation by building and improving pathways for running, biking and walking, all three of which, along with travel and reading, are among his favorite activities.
His connections to Ukraine are very personal, with family who have been national leaders in Ukraine in the past, and unfortunately, family and friends who are suffering in-place during the current invasion and bombings, and family he has sponsored to keep safe in America until the war ends.
To honor his parents, family and their friends, who as refugees during the WW2 suffered many years of depravations, he is committed to helping the innocents who need the most help, especially the future of Ukraine – the children and youth: orphans, the displaced, those left alone while parents and family are serving in defense efforts, those with disabilities, … as best we can, as many as we can.
